Greening Alberta.... One Roof at a Time
ALBERTA PRAIRIE GREEN ROOF CONFERENCE & TOUR

O V E R V I E W
The Alberta Ecoroof Initiative is co-hosting, with the Calgary Zoo and various local organizations, a regional conference on green roofs. Primary objectives of the conference are to demonstrate the benefits of a green roof system, share information on challenges and advance an action plan to establish a local green roof industry through case study review, research and policy development. The Alberta Prairie Green Roof Conference will be held at the Calgary Zoo & Botanical Gardens on June 9th to 11th, 2008.

June 9
The conference entails a one-day symposium which will provide an opportunity for participants to learn from local and national experts about the design and implementation of green roofs. Keynote speakers include Shannon Nichols from the leading landscape design firm of Gustafson Guthrie Nichol Ltd of Seattle, Steven Peck, founder & president of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, the North American industry association. Local case studies will also be featured. Afternoon focus group sessions will allow attendees the chance to identify with relevant city officials the local research needs and obstacles to implementation.

June 10
A tour of green roofs, both old and newly established, will be organized to demonstrate what has already been achieved in and around Calgary. The tour will conclude at the Alberta Ecoroof Initiative demonstration roof at the Alastair Ross Technology Centre in the University Research Park.

June 11
Green Roofs for Healthy Cities has a number of training courses on which form part of a professional accreditation program. The fourth and final course in the Accreditation Program, called Plants and growing Medium 401 will be offered as well as the GR 101 (Introductory Design).
