April 4, Friday, 7:30 PM - THE HUMAN RIGHT TO PEACE: FULL TIME WORK

Church of the Holy Trinity, 10 Trinity Square (behind the Eaton Centre at Dundas and Bay): $15, $10 low-income. STUDENTS FREE

Friday features the Hon. Douglas Roche speaking on The Human Right to Peace: Full Time Work. This power-point presentation will be followed by a roundtable discussion on the need and vision of a Department of Peace and Canada’s role in peacebuilding with Members of Parliament Borys Wrzesnewskyj (Liberal) and Olivia Chow (NDP), and Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party abd Saul Arbess, Canadian Department of Peace Initiative Co-Chair; MODERATOR, Lyn Adamson, Co-Chair Toronto Chapter SPECIAL GUEST: Emilio Zarris, Vocalist. .

April 5, Saturday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Friends House, 60 Lowther Avenue – BUILDING A CULTURE OF PEACE

Full day including lunch: $25, or $10 low-income

Saturday is a full a workshop day with presenters and panels discussing various components of a Department of Peace. The morning plenary and workshop sessions include Nuclear Disarmament, with Douglas Roche (Middle Powers Initiative), Murray Thompson (Pugwash), Phyllis Creighton (Canadian Network to Abolish Nuclear Weapons) , Women and Peace Building (Helen Chilas & Jo Rodriguez - Voice of Women), and Civilian Peace Service (Gord Breedyk – CPSC, Lyn Adamson, Nonviolent Peaceforce).

At 11:30 there will be a presentation on the international campaign for departments of peace with the co-chairs, Saul Arbess and Bill Bhaneja

LUNCH will be provided at 12:00:

1 PM: Afternoon plenary and breakout sessions will include:

Legislative Action and Advocacy (Rob Acheson, Co-Chair Toronto Chapter). Cities of Peace (Richard Preston - McMaster University, Dmitri Rossopoulos, Quebec), Peace Education (Robert Porter - Global Campaign for Peace Education, Anne Goodman, Interchange and OISE, and Penny Sanger, Educating for Peace), and Involving Youth in Peace (Dr. Peter Stockdale - Saint Paul University).

At 4 PM The AGM of CONSCIENCE CANADA will be held. Conscience Canada is a member org of CDPI and will show their newly released DVD: WORK FOR PEACE, STOP PAYING FOR WAR. The AGM is open to all. A reception will follow at 5:30 pm.

April 6, Sunday, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM CDPI – AGM – all welcome

Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), 252 Bloor Street West

Working group planning sessions and a board meeting will provide opportunity for interested people to participate in strategizing to further the campaign for a Department of Peace.

Lunch will be provided. Costs included in weekend registration, or $15/$10 low-income.
