Boreal Learning Network 2008-2009

Environmental groups that are focused on the Boreal forest recognize First Nations communities have a central role in shaping the Boreal's future. The Boreal Learning Network brings together leaders in Boreal forest conservation nonprofits and key members of First Nations communities in a series of sessions that build cultural understanding and explore ways of working together.

This project is unique because the sessions offer engaging, practical activities that compliment current issues, and provide an opportunity for participants to reflect and share openly their goals, challenges and aspirations for the Boreal.

The objective of this project is to build stronger relationships between First Nations communities and environmental nonprofits. The Boreal Learning Network is centred on three sessions taking place from May 2008 – February 2009 in Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario in a scenic retreat setting within an hour's drive to a major city:

Session One: May 28-30, 2008
Nakoda Lodge in Morley, near Calgary, Alberta

Session Two: September 2008
near Winnipeg, Manitoba

Session Three: February 2009
near Thunder Bay, Ontario

The Boreal Learning Network project will be offered in the Prairies and Ontario with the goal to continue and grow in the future.
