RCE Conference of the Americas: Knowledge and Innovation for Sustainability (May 25 - 27)    Sun May 25 to Tue May 27, 2008, Regina, SK

Knowledge and Innovation for Sustainability:
Assessing and Adopting Beneficial Practices

RCE Conference of the Americas
University of Regina
Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada

May 25-27, 2008

What is the role of education in knowledge and innovation for sustainable development? What are we learning as regions as we seek to improve quality of life for all while living within the limits of our supporting ecosystem? You are invited to participate as we advance the U.N. Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), 2005-2014, at this critical moment in our planet's history. The Knowledge and Innovation for Sustainability Conference is being presented by the Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development Saskatchewan (RCE Saskatchewan), part of the United Nations University RCE initiative. Those in the RCE Saskatchewan region, RCEs in the Americas, and RCEs globally are especially encouraged to attend. You will have an opportunity to:

* Showcase, and celebrate your education for sustainable development projects and research with other regions, community organizations, the research community, and public/media

* Learn about what is occurring in your region and other RCE regions with similar goals and projects

* Help understand key strengths and identify opportunities for growth of your organization and RCE

* Explore the role of education in innovating for sustainable development locally and globally

* Discover the international role and importance of the United Nations University RCE network and contribute to a formal RCE evaluation strategy and networking model between RCEs

Please consider the opportunity to present during one of the sessions and/or participate in a poster session where you can display some of the work that you, your organization, or RCE have done in the area of education for sustainable development. Specific educational areas include: climate change, farming and local food production, health and healthy lifestyles, sustainable infrastructure, reconnecting to natural prairie ecosystems, and supporting and bridging cultures.

More information on these opportunities can be found in the "Call for Participation" section on the conference website: www.saskrce.ca/conference2008/

Please note that the deadline for submission of proposals is Friday, April 4, 2008.

You can also find the draft conference agenda on the website (go to the "Draft Agenda" link under "Conference Information"). This agenda may be especially useful for you to identify where you might fit into the conference program and for arranging transportation dates to and from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Additional information and updates (including registration and accommodation) will be made available on the conference website in the near future.

Learn about the strategic importance of RCEs in the Americas, connect with others who share your goals, and take innovative ideas and contacts back home to help your work and RCE flourish. Don't miss this historic opportunity to see your RCE in a global context and become part of a global community working towards education for sustainable development. Hosted by RCE Saskatchewan, the RCE Conference of the Americas is an unprecedented event.
