Canadian Biodiversity Adaptation in a Changing Climate: EMAN National Science Meeting 2008 (Apr 28 - May 3)    Mon Apr 28 to Sat May 3, 2008, Gatineau, QC

2008 EMAN National Science Meeting

The 2008 Ecological Monitoring and Assessment Network (EMAN) National Science Meeting will be held April 30th to May 2nd at the Chateau Cartier Resort in Gatineau, Québec. The theme of this year’s meeting will be Canadian Biodiversity Adaptation in a Changing Climate.

The goal of the meeting is to produce an integrated, policy-relevant, science assessment of how biodiversity and ecosystems adapt to a changing climate. The meeting will focus on what we think we know and what we need to know. The meeting will be structured around three adaptation sub-themes: biodiversity monitoring; biodiversity and climate change science; and integrated planning and management tools. Participants should focus particularly on the gaps in each of these three areas that may constrain the implementation of effective biodiversity adaptation measures in a changing climate.

The need is pressing. In the face of rapid, human-induced climate change and other interacting stressors, such as invasive species and land-use change, decision-makers at all levels need to better understand the risks to our natural capital and to the ecological goods and services that support our health, wealth, security and competitiveness.

Abstracts for presentations and posters are sought describing investigations or experiences at local to global scales related to each sub-theme of the meeting.
