Understanding the WELL Building Standard: Half Day Workshop    Wed Mar 8, 2017, Vancouver, BC

The WELL Workshop helps building professionals and owners understand their role as public health practitioners. It also helps medical professionals understand the critical role that the built environment plays in the health and well-being of occupants. Attendees will learn how to harness the built environment as a vehicle to support human health, well-being, and comfort. The ideology, structure, and certification process of the WELL program are covered, as well as the health basis for key Features. Strategies for improving the nutrition, fitness, mood, sleep patterns, and performance of occupants through design and construction practices are explored and WELL case studies are highlighted.

For those seeking to become WELL Accredited Professionals (WELL APs), this course will provide you with foundational knowledge that may be incorporated into your WELL Exam study plan.

Learning Objectives:

- Identify the purpose, key components, and structure of the WELL Building Standard
- Discuss the health basis for the Concepts and Features of the WELL Building Standard
- Understand successful strategies for meeting the requirements of the WELL Features
- Learn about WELL resources and how to become a WELL Accredited Professional

Instructor: Kathy Wardle--As Associate Principal and Director of Research, Kathy directs Perkins+Will Vancouver officeís research and sustainable design advisory team. On a firm wide level, Kathy helped author, implement and direct Perkins+Willís Sustainable Design Initiative. She regularly speaks and writes about sustainable design and healthy materials, and has authored several articles on healthy building materials and transparency. Kathy is a member of the City of Vancouverís Green Building Advisory Committee, Co-Chair of the International Living Future Institute Cascadia Congress, and is a past-chair of the Cascadia Green Building Council.
