WORKING FOR A BETTER WORLD
New service helps find meaningful employment
for the socially and environmentally conscious

KINGSTON – Oct. 25, 2004 – Canadians who hope for a more sustainable world now have an easier way to seek employment related to peace, environment and social issues.

GoodWork Canada today announced the launch of its job listing website and portal. The site serves as a gateway to "socially and environmentally conscious" jobs, contracts, internships and organizations. In addition, it highlights related job search information, resources and networking opportunities.

"This site is amazing and it makes me happy to know it's here. It makes me feel so much better that there are good jobs out there for people who care about making this earth a better place for our children", said Karolinka Zawadzka, a GoodWork visitor.

The Everdale Environmental Learning Centre, northwest of Toronto, has made frequent use of GoodWork and its sister project, Planetfriendly.net. "These communication services are truly the glue which binds together all of the people who are striving towards a more sensible, ecological future" , said Everdale's Gavin Dandy.

"I would absolutely and highly recommend the service to other nonprofits, government agencies, and businesses that are good corporate citizens", said Janet Lo, Executive Director of Smart Commute-Black Creek.

While the service has been operating informally for some time, the website recently became fully operational. It is now being launched across Canada.

What inspired GoodWork? "I spent almost twenty years of my life in uninspired, unimportant work", says founder Peter Blanchard. "Then I realized that my willingness to accept such work was not only destroying my own life, but was helping create a world in which nobody can live. I took the leap, did some exploring, and discovered a plethora of alternatives. I feel compelled to share them with others".

The listings on GoodWork include everything from jobs with environmental organizations, to organic internships, to green businesses for sale. A well organized portal of links is also provided, allowing visitors to further expand their search.

GoodWork operates on a not-for-profit basis. Its services are free for job seekers, and pay-what-you-can for employers.
