and directory of links, resources and organizations What's it all about? | MLM Legality, Criticisms & Warnings | MLM Opportunities | Alternatives "MLM", "multi-level marketing", "network sales", "referral marketing" what's it all about? This page links you to many such opportunities, as well as serious questions and concerns about them. It lets you take a good look at both sides of the story and make up your own mind. On the one hand, these companies can offer unique work-from-home opportunities, a chance to build a business around a product or service that interests you. They offer a potential alternative to traditional corporate or retail workplaces. On the other hand, there are serious allegations about whether many such arrangements are as good as they seem at first glance, and whether more than a minority of those who get involved actually make any money. The hype and camaraderie of MLM's sometimes inspires fanatic adherents, to the point of ignoring other alternatives. Some of MLM companies claim to be environmentally and socially responsible yet sell highly processed and manufactured products with questionable benefits. Both MLM and other forms of business can often be accused of claiming their products or services to be "green", "organic" or "environmentally friendly" ...when closer consideration reveals that the benefits are negligible or are negated by other aspects of the production, distribution or consumption of the product. This is known as "greenwash". To determine whether any product or service is truly "green", one must apply cradle to grave analysis and determine the complete ecological footprint. However, many of the above criticisms can apply not only to multi-level schemes, but also other forms of business. The following links give you both sides of the story. You will find many companies that offer a variety of opportunities and arrangements. But you will also find serious criticisms on a number of well known organizations plus tips on how to detect which opportunities are what they claim to be, and could indeed be a genuine opportunity for the right person. Each opportunity should be judged on its own merits and risks both for the individuals involved, and for society as a whole. Think carefully before you invest time or money. Seek out more than one opinion. Take the time to consider other options. Let the buyer and the prospective seller beware.
