Sharing Experiences Workshop one-day workshop for individuals and groups interested in creating positive environmental change    Sat Feb 22, 2020, Halton/GTA, ON

Sharing Experiences is a biennial one-day capacity-building workshop for individuals and community groups interested in creating positive environmental change. The goal of the workshop is to link like-minded people and groups to facilitate the sharing of ideas and experiences so that participants can build skills, network and share ideas about environmental projects in their respective communities. The workshop includes presentations, panel discussions and small breakout sessions delivered and facilitated by knowledgeable and experienced members of the environmental community.

Following the success of the Sharing Experiences Workshop since its inception in 2009, local Conservation Authorities and environmental organizations are partnering to host the 7th biennial Sharing Experiences Workshop with a focus on Climate Change and Youth Engagement.

The workshop will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020, at the Puslinch Community Centre at 23 Brock Road South, Puslinch, ON, N0B 2J0 and will include presentations and small breakout sessions from knowledgeable and experienced members of the environmental community.

Kevin Hamilton, Vice President for Communications, Student Conservation Association (SCA) will set the tone for the event. His keynote address will showcase how forging hands-on connections between young people and the great outdoors ensures the new generation will value, experience, and conserve our natural world. Kevin has presented on a range of topics at national forums in the U.S. including the Public Lands Alliance Convention, the National Outdoor Recreation Conference, and the Wilderness Risk Managers Conference.

The Sharing Experiences Workshop Organizing Committee recognizes the hard work and dedication that members of the community put into environmental projects each year. As in past years, the agenda is designed by those planning to attend the workshop and therefore relevant to current local issues and activities. Fundraising, engaging youth, community partnerships, invasive species management and multicultural outreach are just a few examples of topics covered. Ensuring that an innovative and varied set of topics are selected for each workshop is a priority.

Since 2009, more than 400 participants, representing more than 160 different community-based environmental groups from the Greater Golden Horseshoe area, have attended this workshop. This is an opportunity for everyone to share their stories, to learn from each other and to establish relationships with like-minded people. Please refer to the programs from our past workshops to learn more.
