Building with rammed earth    Sun May 14, 2017, Toronto, ON

Rammed earth building goes back millennia. One of the most environmental ways to build walls of any building, rammed earth has low-embodied energy but also excels in providing airtight, energy efficient buildings with ample thermal mass to store passive solar energy.

Sylvia Cook, rammed earth builder from Ontario, will discuss the impact of modern approaches to traditional rammed earth techniques. She will show examples, including her own house, of rammed earth homes which even in the cold winters and hot humid summers of Ontario have neither furnace nor air conditioner.
