Riverside Welcomes Toronto to Riverside Ignite 2015 WalkFEST
TORONTO, October 25, 2014 – On Saturday, October 25tt, the Riverside District welcomes the city to the much anticipated 6th annual FREE Riverside WalkFEST. This year’s WalkFEST has been awarded Pan Am Ignite Status, and promises to be a great day of food, fun and exercise!
The annual Riverside WalkFEST has become an area tradition, inviting citizens of Riverside and the Greater Toronto Area to come out for a series of curated walking tours to meet local business owners and experience the diversity of the Riverside District. This year’s WalkFEST will have 9 unique walks led by local personalities. The day will also include a celebration of the completion of our Sport Heritage mural painted by renowned local muralist, Monica Wickeler.
Riverside WalkFEST walking tour schedule includes:
* 11am – 2pm: Savory Culinary Walk – This walk highlights restaurants and food purveyors whose specialty is focused on savory treats, including variations of Caribbean and Latin American tasters. Led by the well know foodie Scott Savoie from Culinary Adventures.
* 12pm – 2pm: History of Sport Walk – Focused on the progression and history of sports in Riverside. This includes history on the Canadian Curling Club, and much else. Led by Ron Fletcher.
* 1pm – 3pm: DIY Style & Décor Walk – This DIY themed walk will be featuring the design and style shops around Riverside, with a diverse array of DIY tutorials throughout.
* 1pm – 3pm: Cycle Tour – Showcasing Riverside’s access to the Pan Am Path with our very own Switchback Cyclery.
* 2pm – 4pm: Medicinal Plant & Herb Walk – Assessing common weeds and herbs and finding out their health and medicinal properties while taking a stroll through some of Riverside’s Parks and Gardens. Led by Clinical Herbalist Danette Steele.
* 2:30pm – 5:30pm: Sweet Culinary Walk – This walk highlights restaurants and food purveyors whose specialty is more on the sweet side. Led by the well know foodie Scott Savoie from Culinary Adventures. Including variations of Caribbean and Latin American treats.
* 3pm – 4pm: Kids’ Trick or Treat Walk – Kids, whip out your costumes! On this walk, kids can dress up and go trick or treating around Riverside!
* 3pm – 4pm: Fitness Walk – This walk will showcase all the wonderful fitness & wellness related businesses within Riverside. It will be filled with fitness activities, yoga & massage therapy, and perhaps some superfood samplings.
* 3pm – 5pm: Urban Planning Walk – This walk would examine the materials and techniques used to build Riverside, as well as look at the history of larger infrastructure like the streetcar line, rail line, historical property divisions, and the planning of present day developments. Led by writer and urbanist Edward Kennan
