Big Wild Challenge    Sun Aug 17, 2014, Chelsea / Ottawa, ON

Go Big And Go Roam!

The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) is holding its first annual organized Big Wild Challenge and we cordially invite you! If you’re interested in an exciting eco-friendly challenge, in the name of conservation, the Big Wild Challenge is for you!

Founded by CPAWS and Mountain Equipment Co-op, the Big Wild Challenge is a conservation-based fundraising challenge that invites participants to share their love of Canada’s big and wild places by taking part in a community group event or dedicating a self-propelled nature trip to wilderness protection.

The Big Wild Challenge offers a Do-It-Yourself (DIY), for those who have been considering an epic adventure of their own, or an organized local event where registrants can focus on the fun and fundraising and leave the planning to the local CPAWS chapter.

CPAWS, in collaboration with Mountain Equipment Co-op, are working together to encourage local communities to raise funds for the cause and help sustain a vision for wilderness protection across Canada. The goal is to create a Canada-wide movement that will advance the mission of keeping at least 50% of our public land and water permanently wild. We intend to do this by increasing the opportunity for Canadians to learn more about the need for wilderness protection and to voice their support for it. All funds raised from the Big Wild Challenge will go towards supporting CPAWS conservation campaigns across Canada to help protect at-risk wilderness and sustain healthy networks of parks and protected areas.

CPAWS Ottawa Valley would love to see you, your friends and family at its organized event on Sunday August 17th!

The day includes an active hiking challenge through the beautiful Gatineau Park. The hike is guaranteed to immerse you in the wildlife, as you traverse rocky terrain, cross rivers, and enjoy the amazing look-outs from the peaks of Gatineau Park! There will also be great prizes, courtesy of Mountain Equipment Co-op, to be won by our dedicated fundraisers (that’s you!).

This event is certain to be a unique and thrilling outdoor adventure where you can help protect Canada’s amazing wilderness, and have a great time doing it. Please visit bigwildchallenge.org for more information and to register for a DIY challenge or an organized “Big Wild Challenge” in your local area to raise funds for wilderness conservation. We look forward to seeing you and hearing about your big, wild, and challenging experiences!
